Green Bay may be the smallest market in the NFL, but the celebration will be anything but when they host the 2025 NFL Draft on Thursday night. The storied history of both the Green Bay Packers and the University of Wisconsin-Madison will be well represented as several legends are lined up to announce picks for their respective teams.
The Packers will flaunt their championship success at their hometown event, with former wide receiver Jordy Nelson, Hall of Famer linebacker Dave Robinson, and Hall of Fame guard and kicker Jerry Kramer all set to announce the team's day two selections. All three were part of Super Bowl teams, Robinson and Kramer representing the initial Lombardi era, whereas Nelson will be the link to a younger fandom who watched the 2010 Super Bowl.
On day three, additional legends will take the stage. Among them is the team's all-time leading scorer, kicker Mason Crosby, who was last with the team in 2022. This is an especially fitting draft for him as a former member of both the Packers and the University of Colorado, as the school is likely to have two highly drafted prospects, wide receiver and cornerback Travis Hunter and quarterback Shedeur Sanders.
Joining him will be Clay Matthews, the six-time Pro Bowl linebacker who was also a part of the 2010 championship, running back Ahman Green, and wide receiver James Jones. Notably absent is a lack of members who were on the 1996 Championship team, including Hall of Fame quarterback Brett Favre, whose recent controversies may be responsible for missing the event.
The Packers won’t be the only ones welcoming a homecoming. The Wisconsin Badgers football program will have 11 alums present to announce their teams' picks. This includes Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor, former Cleveland Browns tackle and Hall of Famer Joe Thomas, and recently retired New Orleans Saints tackle Ryan Ramczyk.
The celebration of a team's history is a newer one for the NFL Draft, who abandoned its Radio City Music Hall venue in New York just over a decade ago and began to circulate the location around to the league’s cities. After rivals Chicago and Detroit had their turns, Green Bay will get the chance to showcase their historic city on one of the league's most important nights.
