The Green Bay Packers have been adding talent to the wide receiver room this offseason. After a subpar year that was riddled with drops, the team drafted Matthew Golden in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. They doubled up and took TCU receiver Savion Williams in the third round, who is one of the most athletic players in the draft. In free agency, the team added the speedster Mecole Hardman and added a few more players as undrafted free agents. On Thursday morning, they added another athletic receiver after a workout, Miami WR Sam Brown.

Green Bay Packers Sign WR Sam Brown

Reports indicated the Green Bay Packers liked the tape of Sam Brown before the draft and invited him for a workout on Thursday morning. They must have liked what they saw because they immediately signed him. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound receiver ran a 4.42 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine and had a vertical jump of 41.5″. However, he went undrafted due to a lack of college production and concerns about his polish as a receiver.

Last season with the Hurricanes, he caught 36 passes for 509 yards and two touchdowns. In 2023, he was a teammate of Golden at Houston and racked up 62 catches for 815 yards and three touchdowns. The Green Bay Packers are taking a chance. GM Brian Gutekunst has loved bringing in athletic people and counting on the coaching staff to build them up. Does he have a shot to actually make the team?

A Crowded Wide Receiver Room

The Green Bay Packers have a crowded receiver room at the moment. Some players, like Jayden Reed and Matthew Golden, are locks to make the roster. Brown will have to come in and impress early to beat out Bo Melton and Malik Heath. Those two players played significant snaps last year and already know the offense. Brown has to prove he can be a huge asset on the field.

Nothing is impossible, but the Packers seem to be collecting as much talent at the position as possible and figuring out the rest later. It doesn’t cost much, and the worst-case scenario is that they release him once the rosters need to get down to size. Can the wide receiver room improve their play over last year and help Jordan Love have a career year?
