Green Bay Packers Again Linked To Interesting Former Pro Bowl Quarterback
Steve Roberts-USA TODAY Sports

As the 2024 NFL season continues to draw closer, the Green Bay Packers continue receiving potential Super Bowl hype. After a shocking run to the playoffs and a dominant win over the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round last season, many believe that Jordan Love and company are ready to take another step this year.

It has been a busy offseason by Packers’ standards. They went into free agency and added both Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney. Both players are going to be massive pieces for the present and future as Green Bay tries to win a Super Bowl.

In the 2024 NFL Draft, Brian Gutekunst put together yet another masterpiece. That has been the standard for Green Bay. Drafting and developing has been their motto.

While the Green Bay Packers have Love as their starter, there are some questions about the quarterbacks behind him. Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt are both talented, but some think they should sign a veteran quarterback.

Green Bay Packers Again Linked To Interesting Former Pro Bowl QB

Throughout the course of the offseason, the Packers have been linked multiple times to free agent veteran quarterback Ryan Tannehill. Once again, they’ve been connected to Tannehill, this time by Bleacher Report.

“His days of starting are likely over, but there should have been more interest in a backup quarterback with a 39-24 record over the last five seasons. The Packers, for instance, would be better off going to Tannehill in the event of a Jordan Love injury than hoping for the best with Sean Clifford (one career pass attempt) or rookie Michael Pratt.”

While it’s understandable that trusting Clifford or Pratt is a bit of a risk, the Green Bay Packers are very high on both of their young quarterbacks. It seems very unlikely that they would sign a veteran like Tannehill.

That being said, Tannehill is a quality backup. During the 2023 season with the Tennessee Titans, Tannehill ended up playing in 10 games. His numbers were pretty poor, completing 64.8 percent of his pass attempts for 1,616 yards, four touchdowns, and seven interceptions.

Seeing that kind of production should make the Green Bay Packers even more hesitant to signing him. He had some good years with the Titans, but he’s also had some duds.

It will be interesting to see what the 2024 season has in store for the Packers. They’re loaded with talent and appear to be potential contenders in the NFC. Matt LaFleur will have to figure out his backup quarterback choice, but many think they should still consider signing Tannehill.
