Green Bay Packers’ Biggest Roster Flaw Revealed
Jeffrey Becker-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers are well-positioned to make some noise during the 2024 season. They gained some playoff experience last season, which will bode well for potentially the younger team in the NFL for the second straight season.

With such a youthful roster, there could be some hiccups along the way. Some positional groups still don’t have a single player on their second contract in the NFL, but there are no glaring holes on the roster.

Alas, like even the most talented teams, some areas on the team could use a little bit of upgrading. In the opinion of Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report, the one roster flaw that could derail the Green Bay Packers in 2024 is their cornerback depth.

“The Packers haven’t added any notable veteran cornerbacks this offseason, and they didn’t draft one (Kalen King) until the seventh round. The seem to have confidence in Corey Ballentine, whom general manager Brian Gutekunst said “played exceptionally well” last season,” wrote Moton.

Along with Corey Ballentine, the team has Carrington Valentine and Kalen King as depth behind Jaire Alexander and Eric Stokes. But, health has been an issue for this positional group. Stokes, a first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, had the fifth-year option on his rookie contract declined after playing in only 12 games the last two seasons.

Alexander has alternated healthy seasons with unhealthy ones the last three, playing in only four games in 2021 and seven in 2023. Sandwiched in between was a 16-game campaign he earned a Pro Bowl nod and spot on the All-Pro Second Team.

It will be interesting to see if the Green Bay Packers add some reinforcements to their secondary. Some of the safeties they have added are versatile enough to play some slot cornerback to help out as well. But a veteran such as Stephon Gilmore, Patrick Peterson, Xavien Howard or Steven Nelson would do wonders as well.
