Green Bay Packers: Coach Reveals Honest Level of Trust in Emanuel Wilson After RB’s Preseason Blunders

The Green Bay Packers rebounded from their poor outing in Week 1 of the NFL preseason against the New York Jets by taking down the Indianapolis Colts on the road last Saturday to the tune of a 23-19 score.

The Packers got plenty of production in the Colts game at Lucas Oil Stadium from their ground attack, which gathered a total of 159 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 40 carries.

Three different running backs scored those touchdowns, excluding Emanuel Wilson, who generated 33 rushing yards on five carries for an efficient average of 6.6 yards per rushing attempt.

However, Wilson shot the Packers in the foot when he fumbled a ball that the Colts recovered and later turned into a made field goal. Before that, he had a miscue that led to a sack for Indianapolis’ stop unit.

Wilson still has Green Bay Packers coach’s trust despite bad plays vs. Colts

Even with those miscues, Wilson still has the confidence of Green Bay running backs coach Ben Sirmans.

“With Emanuel, it’s just about being consistent all the time because he’s got it in him,” said Sirmans on Sunday, per Paul Bretl of ESPN LA Crosse. “I think last year he might’ve only had one mental error, which for him, that speaks volumes from where he came from his rookie year. So I’m developing a lot more trust in him.”

Wilson remains in a battle with MarShawn Lloyd for the chief backup role behind No. 1 RB Josh Jacobs, and he’ll get a chance to atone for his errors in practice sessions and in this coming Saturday’s preseason finale against the Seattle Seahawks at Lambeau Field.
