The Green Bay Packers are coming off of their Week Five bye week, hoping that the week off will allow them to get healthy and ready for the rest of the long 2025 NFL season. Among the players that the Packers hope to get back in Week Six are starting right tackle Zach Tom (oblique) and starting left guard Aaron Banks (groin). In each of Green Bay’s past two games, the absence of these players was felt deeply, and the Packers went 0-1-1 in those contests.
Additionally, wide receiver Christian Watson has the chance to return to practice this week for the first time since tearing his ACL in Week 18 of the 2024 NFL season. While there is no set date for his return to game play, his progress during rehab has been fast and noticeable.
The Cincinnati Bengals, who Green Bay plays this week, on the other hand, have some questions of their own at the post important position on the field: quarterback.
The Bengals will, once again, be without their star quarterback Joe Burrow, who is out for several weeks after needing surgery on a severe turf toe injury. In his place, Cincinnati has been using backup Jake Browning as a starter, but the results have been nothing short of disastrous.
In the Bengals’ 37-24 loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, Browning was 26/40 and three for 251 yards and three touchdowns, but also threw three interceptions. Since coming in for the injured Burrow, he has six touchdown passes compared to eight interceptions, which is the second-most in the NFL this season behind Geno Smith’s nine (Las Vegas Raiders).
After their frustrating loss on Sunday, Bengals head coach Zac Taylor admitted that there could be another change at the quarterback position coming soon.
“After a game like that, we’re going to look at all personnel to make sure we’re doing the right thing,” Taylor said according to Ben Baby of ESPN. “I won’t shy away from that because it’s a very fair question after the amount of turnovers that we had.”
If Cincinnati is going to change their starting quarterback before they play the Packers in Week Six, former Green Bay draft pick and Jordan Love backup Sean Clifford is among their options. He was signed by the Bengals following the Packers’ releasing him at the end of training camp and assigned to Cincinnati’s practice squad.
Additionally, the Bengals have Brett Rypien on their 53-man roster and Mike White on the practice squad.
Regardless of who starts, Green Bay will be facing an offense that is in shambles, but can still put up some points with wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. If the pass rush can get home against the Bengals’ offensive line, which is among the worst in the NFL, the Packers could have a very successful day this coming Sunday.
