Green Bay Packers Could Steal Major Raiders’ Playmaker
Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers have a clear mission this offseason: to fortify their offensive arsenal around quarterback Jordan Love and propel themselves into contention for multiple Super Bowl victories.

With the uncertainty surrounding their veteran running backs, Aaron Jones and A.J. Dillon, the Packers may explore free agency to secure a dynamic backfield weapon to complement Love.

Pro Football Focus has identified free agent running back and former rushing champion, Josh Jacobs, as an ideal fit for the Packers.

They revealed some of their reasoning for why the Packers could look to make a major move at running back this offseason.

“Green Bay was reportedly one of the teams calling about Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor before he eventually signed an extension, and A.J. Dillon is a pending free agent while Aaron Jones is still uber-efficient despite missing a lot of time in 2023.”

Although Jacobs’ 2023 season was curtailed by a quad injury, the 25-year-old boasts an impressive track record. Just a year ago, he racked up a career-best 1,653 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns, matching his personal best in the latter category.

Over his first five seasons in the NFL, Jacobs has consistently demonstrated explosive prowess, amassing 5,545 rushing yards and finding the end zone 46 times.

PFF statistics also reveal that Jacobs averaged 2.98 yards after contact per carry, making him a potentially perfect fit for the Packers’ offensive scheme, especially if they plan to integrate several young offensive linemen in 2024.

While Jacobs isn’t a superstar, he is a very serviceable back that could form a great one-two punch with Jones. If the Green Bay Packers want to fortify their offense around Love, this could be a good way to help do that.
