While much of the news around the Green Bay Packers lately has centered around the incoming talent on offense, the defense still has a lot of optimism surrounding it. A strong rookie class from 2024-25 is now hoping to keep the momentum going into their sophomore seasons. Pro Football Focus is predicting just that for linebacker Edgerrin Cooper, putting him in the top 10 at the linebacker position in the entire NFL entering next year.
Green Bay Packers linebacker Edgerrin Cooper was one of the best defensive rookies in the NFL last season. After being selected with the 45th pick in the 2024 NFL Draft’s second round, the Texas A&M product went on to have 77 total tackles, 3.5 sacks, 1 fumble recovery, and an interception. His stellar rookie campaign resulted in him being sixth in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting.
While linebacker continues to be an undervalued position in the league, some experts already feel that Cooper is one of the best of the bunch. Mason Cameron of Pro Football Focus (PFF) recently put out their top 10 linebackers in the league, a list that saw Cooper slot in to the 9th position.

With just one season under his belt, Cooper is already respected as one of the better players in the league. PFF rated his overall play as an 84, which was 10th best among linebackers. Cameron rates Cooper even higher than this statistical rating. Cooper was in the top third of qualifying players in solo tackles and pressure rate.
The Packers have multiple other talented sophomore players on defense, including safety Evan Williams and safety Javon Bullard, but perhaps no one has as much hype building around them as #56 in green and gold.

Also of note was the fact that two NFC North rivals, namely the Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears , also had inclusions on the list. Detroit’s Jack Campbell, who is entering his third year in the NFL, clocked in right ahead of Cooper in 8th. Chicago’s TJ Edwards was right below Cooper at 10, rounding out the top group of players.
