One of the biggest storylines surrounding the Green Bay Packers earlier this offseason was their ongoing standoff with two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander. After the Packers lost to the Philadelphia Eagles in the NFL Playoffs, Alexander told team reporters that he had “nothing good to say” about the team and that he was not sure if he was going to return in 2025.
What followed these comments were months of speculation that the Packers and Alexander would eventually have a parting of ways. Green Bay even made the two-time Second Team All-Pro available for trade in days leading up the 2025 NFL Draft, but were unable to find a trade partner for the oft-injured cornerback.
Eventually, right before mandatory minicamp, the Packers decided to release Alexander, making him a free agent. While there was some initial concern that he would join a division rival, he eventually signed with the Baltimore Ravens, reuniting him with Lamar Jackson, who was his teammate in college.
The reason why Alexander and the Packers had a falling out was because the 2018 first round pick simply could not stay on the field due to his multiple injuries. He played just four games in 2021 due to a severe shoulder injury, and then just 14 games combined in 2023 and 2024.
By the time his tenure in Green Bay came to an end, Alexander had played in 34 of a possible 68 games over the last four seasons, and just 14 of a possible 34 during the last two.
Despite the injuries, though, Alexander was a fan-favorite, and many did not want to see him go. Indeed, the Packers front office was heavily criticized for releasing the two-time Pro Bowler.
However, it appears that the injury concerns Green Bay had were warranted. Since signing with Baltimore, Alexander has missed several days of practice during training camp because of lingering issues:
Former Packers CB Jaire Alexander continues to miss practice with “something he’s been dealing with for a few years,” according to Ravens HC John Harbaugh.
Alexander had his knee drained in July. He missed 10 games in 2024 with a knee injury that eventually required surgery.

As Coach Harbaugh notes, the injuries Alexander is dealing with have been plaguing for years, dating back to his time with the Packers. Last year, he had a groin injury early in the season and then a torn PCL that cut his year short.
He had his knee drained earlier during training camp already.
Of course, the two-time Pro Bowler could end up having a healthy season and prove all of his doubters wrong. As things are right now, though, it appears that the Packers were in the right when it came to being concerned as to his ability to stay on the field and avoid injury.
