Green Bay Packers: former wide receiver signs with Denver Broncos ahead of Week 6

Following the 2021 NFL season, there were many questions surrounding the Green Bay Packers wide receiver position. Davante Adams, an All-Pro and one of the best pass catchers in franchise history, was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders. Marquez Valdes Scantling, who was Green Bay’s best wide receiver in the NFC Championship Game, departed in free agency.

At the end of the Aaron Rodgers era, and at the start of the Jordan Love one, the Packers employed young wide receivers that they found in the NFL Draft or signed as undrafted free agents. And while there was a steep learning curve as these young pass catchers gained experience and built chemistry with Love, the result as been that their wide receiver room is one of the deepest in the entire league.

So deep, in fact, that they have not been able to keep all of the young players they drafted at the position.

Former Green Bay Packers wide receiver Samori Toure has signed with the Denver Broncos

After trading Adams to the Raiders, the Packers used three of their picks in the 2022 NFL Draft on wide receivers, taking Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs, and Samori Toure.

Now, Watson has signed a one-year extension (while he is rehabbing from a torn ACL) and Doubs is arguably Green Bay’s number one wide receiver, having more career touchdown receptions than any other player taken in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Toure, though, quickly became the odd man out of the wide receiver room following the 2023 NFL Draft and the Packers taking Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and Grant DuBose (and signing Malik Heath as an undrafted free agent).

He made the 53-man roster in 2023, but did not see the field often. After not making the team in 2024, he was signed by the Chicago Bears and assigned to their practice squad.

After not making the Bears’ roster this season, he also was not signed to their practice squad. Toure has spent the first five weeks of the season as a free agent.

However, news broke late Sunday night that he had agreed to a deal with Denver Broncos:

In two seasons with the Packers, Toure had 13 receptions for 160 yards and a touchdown. Denver will take on the New York Jets in London this week.
