Green Bay Packers hosting possible David Bakhtiari successor for top-30 visit
Darnell Wright Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Green Bay Packers are doing their due diligence for the upcoming NFL Draft. Many visits have already been scheduled as the team looks to reload its roster in the post-Aaron Rodgers era. One position the team has done well at drafting is the offensive line and they may be looking to pick more talent at the position. The Packers are hosting Darnell Wright, a possible David Bakhtiari successor, for a top-30 visit.

Green Bay Packers hosting Darnell Wright

Wright was a former five-star recruit who played four seasons at the University of Tennessee. He made starts at both the left and right tackle position. While he was impressive in his sophomore and junior years, this past season he was downright dominant. He did not give up a sack all season including in a game against Alabama where he went against projected top-5 pick Will Anderson Jr. His elite athleticism is what makes him tantalizing for the Packers. GM Brian Gutekunst loves athletic players and Wright seems to be a perfect fit.

Replacing Bakhtiari?

Bakhtiari isn’t getting any younger. While I believe he still has some good seasons left in him, the Packers should start to look for a replacement. Especially with his injury history, counting on Bakhtiari long-term is not something the Packers should do. What makes Darnell Wright a great fit is that he can play either tackle position. If Bakhtiari finds the fountain of youth, Wright can go to the right tackle position. If not, the Packers have their next left tackle lined up.

While it isn’t the sexiest pick, getting more offensive line help is always essential. Nothing is more aggravating than a quarterback that is constantly under pressure. Games are often won in the trenches and the Green Bay Packers are making sure they will win that battle for years to come.
