Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden has fans hyped even more about the team’s offense. As the first wide receiver picked in the first round by Green Bay since 2002, Golden carries with him pressure to deliver right away in the 2025 NFL season.
The wideout out of the Texas Longhorns football program has been getting rave reviews based on what he’s done so far in the offseason. Even during limited run in the 2025 NFL preseason, Golden managed to turn heads with his downfield play.
Golden’s teammates are just as excited about his potential in the pros. Among those who have gushed over the first-year wide receiver is none other than fellow wideout Jayden Reed, who led the Packers in 2024 with 857 receiving yards.
One training camp, and Matthew Golden already earned respect from his teammates. Jayden Reed on the rookie:
“He’s more advanced than I was as a rookie. The way he understands the playbook, the work ethic he puts in, he’s going to be a dominant player in this league.”
Selected 23rd overall in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft, Golden is expected to produce meaningful numbers for the Packers’ Jordan Love-led passing game. A universally recognized No. 1 wide receiver hasn’t truly emerge yet in Green Bay since the departure of Davante Adams, but Golden could be that guy for the Packers, who averaged 26.1 points per game in 2024.
In the 2024 college football season, Golden recorded 987 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 58 receptions through 16 games.
