The Green Bay Packers are hit with concerning news on the quarterback front on Tuesday, with the team revealing that star signal-caller Jordan Love will be going under the knife to repair an injury on his left thumb.
Although the procedure is not expected to keep Love out for a considerable stretch, this development still causes concern among Packers fans, especially with how close the 2025 NFL season is.
The Packers are scheduled to face the Detroit Lions in Week 1 of the 2025 campaign at Lambeau Field on September 7, and as far as Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst is concerned, Love will be there under center for that contest.
Via Rob Demovsky of ESPN:
Gutekunst added that Love will be ready for Week 1 against the NFC North rival Detroit Lions on Sept. 7.
“I don’t foresee this affecting him long term,” Gutekunst said.
Meanwhile, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur shares the same positive view for Love, saying that he’s confident in the quarterback getting back to 100 percent form sooner rather than later.
Wrote Demovsky on X (formerly Twitter): “From what I’ve been understanding, it’s relatively quick recovery,” LaFleur told the media (h/t Demovsky).
Added Demovsky: “LaFleur said it’s unlikely Love will play in the preseason finale, but the hope he is he can practice before that.”
Given the recent development, Love is certain to miss the preseason game against the Indianapolis Colts this coming Saturday. It is also fair to expect Love to sit out the preseason finale versus the Seattle Seahawks on Aug. 23, regardless of whether he returns to practice before that or not.
