Green Bay Packers: Matt LaFleur Furious with Rasheed Walker, Sees Several Teammates Accept Punishment with Him
Tork Mason / USA TODAY NETWORK

There certainly seems to be something different in Green Bay Packers training camp this year compared to previous seasons. Typically, there have been very few fights or overly physical play at practice before the season starts, though some scuffles are known to breakout when the Packers and other NFL teams meet for joint practices.

But this year, there are multiple reports of incredibly physical play early in training camp, with the Packers offense and defense each being guilty of drawing the wrath of head coach Matt LaFleur.

On Monday, and in days previous, it was cornerback Nate Hobbs that was reported to have been overly physical. He was even benched in practice yesterday after a hit on running back Marshawn Lloyd was deemed to have been over the line. Lloyd limped off the field and is not practicing on Tuesday, but reports state it is because of a groin injury, not the hit from Hobbs.

Green Bay Packers Head Coach Did Not Like Something Rasheed Walker Did in Practice on Tuesday

On Tuesday, though, it was the offense’s turn to draw the ire of Coach LaFleur, notably left tackle Rasheed Walker. According to multiple reports, Walker must have done something to defensive end Kingsley Enagbare during a play that LaFleur did not take too kindly to. These reports state that Walker was told to take a lap around the field and then was kicked out of practice.

To show their support for their teammate, offensive players Tucker Kraft, Sean Rhyan, Josh Jacobs, Zach Tom, Jordan Morgan, and Elgton Jenkins all ran the lap with Walker:

USA Today‘s Ryan Wood also reported that the whole team got a lengthy talk from LaFleur when practice was over regarding how physical they are with each other.

As one can see, LaFleur also had a one-on-one chat with Walker following his address of the whole team.

Indeed, Packers players need to be as careful as possible to avoid injuring each other during practice. That being said, there has not been this kind of physicality in Green Bay’s practices for a long time. Hopefully that means good things for the edge they will carry with them onto the field in 2025.
