Green Bay Packers: Matt LaFleur Issues Statement on ‘Unfortunate’ Twist in Training Camp

The Green Bay Packers have a breakout candidate for the 2025 NFL season in running back MarShawn Lloyd, but they got a scare involving the former USC Trojans star during Monday’s training camp.

Lloyd reportedly suffered a non-contact injury, which was initially believed to have been caused by a hit by new Green Bay defensive back Nate Hobbs.

Any injury report regarding Lloyd brings elevated concern among the Packers and the team’s fans, considering the fact that health issues held him to just a single appearance in the 2024 campaign.

While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, LaFleur said that “we’re kinda working through it right now, but it’s unfortunate,” when asked about Lloyd’s status.

Lloyd did not see action in Tuesday’s training camp sessions, likely out of precaution. There’s just no need for the Packers to rush him back, given his injury background and the proximity of the 2025 NFL season.

Green Bay selected Lloyd in the third round (88th overall) of the 2024 NFL draft, and while he barely saw the field in his rookie season, he could be in line for a bigger role behind Josh Jacobs in 2025.

Lloyd, who also played for the South Carolina Gamecocks, amassed 1,621 rushing yards and 19 touchdowns on 291 carries in three years in college before deciding to turn pro.
