There is growing hype on Green Bay Packers rookie wide receiver Matthew Golden. The moment the Packers used a first-round pick to get him in the 2025 NFL draft immediately gave Green Bay fans a reason to feel high on him. Until this year’s draft, the Packers had not selected a wideout in the first round of the NFL draft in over two decades.
But that changed with Golden, who played his first two seasons in college with the Houston Cougars before transferring to Austin with the Texas Longhorns, where he turned even more heads. In his lone season with the Longhorns, Golden amassed 987 receiving yards and nine touchdowns on 58 receptions.
Golden has big dreams not just for himself in the NFL but for the Packers, who are looking to win their first Super Bowl since 2011.
“Definitely want to go get that [Lombardi] Trophy, man,” Golden shared (via Chris Bengel of CBS Sports). “That’s the question mark we got in our team room is just filling in that blank. That’s the last thing we need in that team room and, for us, that’s all we talk about at practice is getting that trophy. So, we’re doing everything we can each and every day to get to that point and just letting the rest be built up by itself.”
Selected 23rd overall in this year’s NFL draft, Golden is currently given a pricve of +2200 to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award, according to odds on ESPN BET.
“Is Matthew Golden destined for a BIG rookie year catching passes from Jordan Love in Green Bay? He’s currently +2200 to win OROY,” ESPN BET posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday.
Golden will not be without competition, certainly, with the likes of Las Vegas Raiders running back Ashton Jeanty, Tennessee Titans quarterback Cam Ward and Jacksonville Jaguars dual-threat weapon Travis Hunter all having much shorter odds.
Nevertheless, Golden will get the chance to prove himself as the best of his draft class.
