Quarterback Malik Willis appears to have found a home with the Green Bay Packers. After two unspectacular seasons with the Tennessee Titans, Willis was traded to the Packers for a seventh-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

Willis did not do much either with the Packers, but he served them when he was called upon to start early in the 2024 season as a temporary starter amid Jordan Love’s injury. Green Bay had to significantly adjust its offensive approach with Willis under center, especially since he didn’t have a full training camp with the Packers.

Willis gets more preparation time with Green Bay Packers

This time around, Willis is much more familiar with the football environment in Green Bay, his teammates, the landscape that head coach Matt LaFleur wants for the team, and offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich’s system.

“Obviously giving him an opportunity to learn the offense, learn the concepts from the ground up, I think that’s super valuable for him,” Stenavich said of Willis (via Green Bay’s website).

“When he came in, it was like, all right, what do you like to do? What are your best skill sets? And then we just tried to enhance that when he was in the game. Now it’s all right, just learn it all and then we can kind of see what you’re comfortable with, the stuff he wasn’t really even exposed to when he showed up.”

Although he’s not going to see the field as a starter so long as Love is healthy, Willis holds an important role for the Packers as insurance at the quarterback position.
