Green Bay Packers: Omar Khan Defends Strategy Before Aaron Rodgers Decision

Sure, Aaron Rodgers will never be as good again as his prime with the Green Bay Packers, but the Pittsburgh Steelers are still getting a quality quarterback to run the show on the field in the coming 2025 NFL season.

The Steelers and Rodgers had quite a saga earlier in the offseason, as it took some time before the two sides finally got together and agreed on a contract. Weeks of speculation had passed until Rodgers ultimately decided to put pen to paper for a one-year, $13.65 million contract with the AFC North division franchise.

Despite the time it took for Rodgers to sign with the Steelers and the possibility that they could have just gone another way in search of a new quarterback, Pittsburgh general manager Omar Khan does not think his team’s patience was taken advantage of.

“Some people might view our patience as a weakness, but we view it as a strength,” Khan said (h/t Brooke Pryor of ESPN).

With Rodgers, the Steelers have a Super Bowl-winning quarterback for the second season in a row. Last season, Russell Wilson started under center for most of the season, though, it was Justin Fields who took over the position in the early goings.

There’s a strong case to be had arguing that the Steelers will be better with Rodgers than when they had Wilson. In 2024, Rodgers, coming off an Achilles injury, registered 3,897 passing yards and 28 touchdowns with 11 interceptions on a 63.0 percent completion rate.
