Green Bay Packers: PFF lists Romeo Doubs as 1 of 10 offensive free agents that deserves to get paid

The Green Bay Packers have multiple questions that they need to answer regarding some of their own free agents. That being said, given their salary cap situation and depth at which many of those players are listed, it is not likely that many of them will return to the team in 2026.

One of these is pending free agent wide receiver Romeo Doubs, who is coming off of the best season of his four-year NFL career. And while his next projected contract is not expected to be overly lucrative, Green Bay’s depth at wide receiver make it highly unlikely that he will get it from the Packers.

Doubs is coming off of a season in which he had 55 receptions for a career-high 724 yards. He also tied for the team lead in touchdown receptions with six.

Most importantly, he cut down on the dropped pass problems that plagued him in 2024, and had a drop percentage of just 3.5%, by far the best mark of his career.

PFF projects that Doubs will get a four-year $48 million contract (or $12 million a year) on his next contract:

“The market at receiver this free agent cycle projects to be one of the deepest in recent memory, and guys like Doubs are a big reason why. With theGreen Bay Packers, Doubs has flown under the radar given his team’s depth at the position; yet, he continues to produce as one of the game’s most consistent targets, producing a 70.0-plus PFF receiving grade in each of his past three seasons.

“At roughly $12 million per year, Doubs wouldn’t even rank inside the top-30 highest paid annually at the position. With Doubs’ Projecting as an immense value at a position that continues to rise in cost.”

While $12 million a year is certainly an affordable salary, the fact of the matter is that Green Bay will have Christian Watson and Jayden Reed back in 2026, and also expect Matthew Golden to have a bigger part in the offense.

This would mean that Doubs would be the number four wide receiver on the depth chart, and no NFL team should be paying their fourth wide receiver $12+ million a season.

It is far more likely, then, that the former fourth-round pick will end up on a team where he will be a top two or three option, perhaps even reuniting with Aaron Rodgers on the Pittsburgh Steelers.
