Green Bay Packers QB Jordan Love Is A Big Winner From Jared Goff Extension

Throughout the course of the NFL offseason, many fans and analysts have been wondering what the Green Bay Packers will end up doing with rising star quarterback Jordan Love. Will they lock him up to a long-term deal? Or, will they play the waiting game and make him prove that his 2023 production wasn’t a fluke before paying him big money?

On Monday, the Detroit Lions agreed to a massive new contract with quarterback Jared Goff. He ended up getting a four-year, $212 million contract. That kind of deal has provided quite a few players with big wins in their own discussions on new deals.

Obviously, one of the biggest winners from the Goff is extension is Love. He’s in the middle of talks with the Packers about a long-term deal and now he has another big contract to base his demands off of moving forward.

Recently, some have been projecting that the Packers may have to pay over $50 million per season on their next deal with Love. That seems steep for a young quarterback with only one year of starting experience, but that is legitimately where the quarterback market has headed towards.

During the 2023 season with the Green Bay Packers, Love ended up completing 64.2 percent of his pass attempts for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. He also scored another four touchdowns on the ground.

Those numbers give reason for argument that Love is a more valuable and productive quarterback than Goff. Love is only 25 years old, while Goff is 29. He already produced better numbers in some areas and very comparable numbers in others.

At the very least, this gives Love even more of a bargaining chip to up the price for the Green Bay Packers. He’s going to get paid, and he’s going to get paid very well.

All of that being said, the most interesting part of all of this is when the Packers will choose to extend their young quarterback. Do they keep waiting while other quarterbacks get new deals done and continue driving the market price up? Or, do they jump quickly and potentially overpay for a relatively unproven quarterback?

Only time will tell, but one thing is for certain, which is the fact that the Green Bay Packers have some big decisions to make in the very near future about a new deal for Jordan Love. The Goff extension has certainly added pressure on the two sides to get something done.
