The Green Bay Packers received concerning news this weekend regarding a member of their offensive line.
Rasheed Walker was arrested Friday at LaGuardia Airport in New York for reportedly trying to check in a bag that contained a firearm. According to the New York Post, he was charged with two counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm.
"The 25-year-old offensive lineman was taken into custody just before 11 a.m. after telling a Delta Air Lines employee that his luggage contained a locked box holding his 9mm Glock pistol, according to a criminal complaint," the report from the New York Posts states. "Port Authority police were alerted and responded to Terminal C, where they searched his bag and found the firearm and 36 rounds of ammo secured in the locked case."
Walker's attorney, Arthur Aidala, spoke to ESPN about this incident. As of now, it doesn't sound like his legal team is concerned.
"We are confident the matter will be resolved favorably," Aidala told ESPN.
The timing of this arrest is interesting to say the least. Walker, 25, is set to become an unrestricted free agent this March. Spotrac expects him to command an average salary of $20.3 million.
"Set to turn 26 in February, Walker should be the top target of any team seeking a long-term left tackle in free agency," Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report wrote.
We'll see if this arrest impacts Walker's value heading into free agency.
