The Green Bay Packers are looking for a new special teams coordinator following the surprising and sudden resignation of Rich Bisaccia earlier this week. After spending the last few weeks replenishing their defensive staff following the departure of defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley, who took multiple coaches with him, the Packers all of a sudden need to find another coordinator.

This will be a challenge, though, as Bisaccia’s resignation came at the end of the NFL coach hiring cycle. Many candidates that may have been at the top of Green Bay’s list have already accepted jobs elsewhere.

That being said, head coach Matt LaFleur likely had a list ready, as Bisaccia considered stepping down in 2024 as well. On Thursday, one of the names that the Packers will interview was revealed.

According to Bill Huber, who covers the Packers for Sports Illustrated, Green Bay is going to interview former NFL linebacker Kyle Wilber for their special teams coordinator opening:

“Former NFL linebacker Kyle Wilber is expected to interview to become the Green Bay Packers’ new special teams coordinator, a source told Packers On SI.”

Wilber, whose playing career ended following the 2021 NFL season, was a special teams quality control coach with the Packers from 2023-2024.

Last season, he was hired by the New Orleans Saints as an assistant special teams coach.

Wilber spent 10 seasons in the NFL, playing the first six years of his career with the Dallas Cowboys, and the last four with the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders. It was during his time with the Raiders, of course, that he became familiar with Bisaccia, who was the special teams coordinator and interim head coach there.

As a player, Wilber made a career of being a special teams regular. From 2013-2021, he never played fewer than 73% of special teams snaps.

Obviously, this is something that could be very attractive to Green Bay, a coach who has experience specializing in special teams. However, no matter who the Packers hire, that coordinator must have the support of the organization. In other words, the franchise needs to stop putting special teams on the back burner and give the unit the resources/players it needs to be successful.
