The Green Bay Packers have finally, after a long offseason, begun training camp. As is the case every year for the team that calls its home Titletown, the expectation is that they will compete for a win a Super Bowl this year. That being said, over the last couple of years, that expectation has been more of a hope than anything else.
At the same time, though, it is hard to call the outcomes of the last two seasons full-on disappointments. With Jordan Love under center following 15 years of future Pro Football Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers as the starting quarterback, the Packers had the youngest team in the NFL and still made the postseason.
In Love’s first season as the starting quarterback, Green Bay finished 9-8 and upset the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round. Last year, in his second season as the starter, the team went 11-6 but were beaten in the opening round of the NFL Playoffs by the eventual Super Bowl Champions, the Philadelphia Eagles.
This year, though, things seems different.
This year, Green Bay will likely have the youngest roster in the NFL again. If not, they will certainly be among the league’s youngest teams as they bring in a new crop of rookies.
But many of their key contributors from the past two seasons, while still young, have more experience heading into the season. Their time together already, as well as the improvements and adjustments the team and coaching staff will make this year, have many fans and even players believing that this could be a special year.
A lot of this, of course, will depend on the play of Love at quarterback. Last year, he played through injuries for virtually the entire season, and it was obviously affecting his decision-making and overall play.
This year, though, he is healthy, and tight end Tucker Kraft believes his quarterback will lead the Packers to the Promised Land:

“I believe Jordan is the guy that’s gonna take us to a Super Bowl. That’s it,” Kraft said when asked how good Love can be when he is completely healthy.
Last season, Love completed 63.1% of his passes for 3,389 yards, 25 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a 96.7 passer rating. He only played in 15 games because of a sprained MCL suffered in Week One, and an injured groin midseason also affected his mobility.
It did not help, also, that his pass catchers led the NFL in drops.
But with Love healthy, and if Packers receivers can leave those drop issues in the past, Green Bay has a real chance of, once again, hoisting the Lombardi Trophy.
