The Green Bay Packers are coming off a disappointing performance in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL preseason, as they got blown out by Justin Fields and the New York Jets last Saturday at Lambeau Field to the tune of a 30-10 score. The 20-point loss to the Jets doesn’t count, but it still left a sour taste for Green Bay, which will look to have a better showing this coming Saturday versus the Indianapolis Colts on the road at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
In the loss to the Jets, Jordan Love and the Packers’ first team spent limited time on the field, with the backups and third and fourth-stringers taking over for most of the contest. Green Bay was dominated on both sides of the ball, with the Jets racking up 403 total yards and holding the Packers to just 188.
As for the Colts, they are also coming off a Week 1 loss in the preseason, with Indianapolis getting drubbed on the road by the Baltimore Ravens, 24-16. Anthony Richardson started that game under center for the Colts, but he exited after suffering a finger injury. For Week 2, the Colts are reportedly going with Daniel Jones as their starter, as Jones and Richardson continue to battle for the team’s QB1 job.
Via Stephen Holder of The Athletic:
“Colts coach Shane Steichen said earlier that Daniel Jones will start next weekend’s preseason game against the Packers and play about two series. Anthony Richardson will take it from there and finish the first half. Starters will generally play about one quarter.”
Richardson was originally tabbed as Week 2’s starter against the Packers, but that’s no longer the path Indianapolis will be taking.
More from Holder: “This is a modification of the original plan based on Richardson’s minimal playing time on Thursday, when he sustained a dislocated finger in the first quarter.”
