Greg’s Quick Hits: Eagles 31 Buccaneers 25

After reaching for the antacids during the previous three Buccaneers’ games I thought that I’d get a reprieve after that first half with Bucs trailing 24 to 6. Oh, but these are not your father’s Buccaneers.

When I look at the standings, I see a column for Win, Losses and even Ties. What I don’t see is one called moral victories. That being said, the Bucs showed that they are a team that will continue to fight even against all odds.

Health plays such a huge factor in the NFL and while no HC will EVER make excuses, we as fans have the luxury to see what’s really happening. The right side of the Offensive Line is bordering on ridiculous. It’s easy to pick apart the gameplan but when you’re only able to be confident on one side of the line, it affects everything. Also, when one unit is hurting, the other TWO need to step up. The not so special teams unit has been killing this team. The Bucs were able to somehow overcome their abysmal play in their 3 wins but yesterday was too much to overcome. Is there anything more deflating, in all of sports, then either a blocked FG or punt that is returned for a TD? We’ve seen it happen in back to back weeks. The punt/FG is a play that I usually think about what happened on the series of downs that caused the team to punt or try a FG. Now my main concern is if the protection is going to hold. Totally unacceptable.

So here they sit at 3-1. Not a bad record. I had hoped for 2 and 2 and that was before the Evans injury. Godwin will need a few more games to really get going but it was encouraging to see both him and Wirfs back in the lineup. They need to make some tough decisions with regards to their special teams and right side of their Offensive Line before they travel to Seattle. One thing I KNOW for sure is that they will fight until the end. That’s a great thing to say about any team you root for. For more from Greg click here, then make sure to follow him on Twitter.
