Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson lasted just two drives in his team’s preseason opener Thursday against the Baltimore Ravens before being pulled.
Only this time it wasn’t for ineffectiveness but for injury — a common theme in Richardson’s two-year NFL career.
On a second-and-10 midway through the first quarter, Richardson dropped back and was bull-rushed by an unblocked David Ojabo. The two tumbled to the turf as the full weight of Ojabo came down on top of Richardson, who was shaken up on the play.
After he headed to the sideline clutching his hand, Richardson, who was supposed to play the first quarter-and-a-half, was pulled in favor of former New York Giants starter Daniel Jones and ruled out for the rest of the game.
Minutes after he was seen on Indianapolis’ bench with a wrap on his hand, a slow-mo video emerged of the hit, showing just how bad Richardson’s hand injury was.

When Ojabo first made contact, Richardson’s hand appeared to be sandwiched between the his body and the ball. As he fell to the ground, he lost control of the ball and his pinky finger on his right hand appeared to be bent in an awkward direction.
Fans hits the comment section to sound off on Richardson's injury misfortune and rip head coach Shane Steichen for playing behind a backup offensive line.
“Just take me out of my misery. Just start Daniel Jones. I can take this bad injury karma anymore. #Colts,” one fan scoffed.
“Dude is the most unlucky player I have ever seen,” another fan wrote.
“I see the line is not protecting. ,” one user commented.
“Why is offensive genius Steichen playing our franchise QB with backup line?? Just asking for this,” asked another user.
"Can’t catch a [expletive] break. And the fact we’re having a QB competition using a backup o-line makes no [expletive] sense to me," another fan replied.
If Richardson misses any time during the regular season, it would keep a troubling trend going.
The former No. 4 overall pick missed 13 games during his rookie season after suffering a concussion and a shoulder A/C joint sprain that required surgery. Last season, Richardson missed here more games with a hip sprain and lower lumbar sprain.
Draft Sharks’ sports injury predictor model lists Richardson as having a 2.30 out of 5 durability score with a 40.4% chance of getting injured in 2025.
