‘Gunman Committed An Unspeakable Act Of Violence’: NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell Responds To Shooting

“As has been widely reported, a gunman committed an unspeakable act of violence in our building at 345 Park Avenue,” Goodell wrote in a statement to league employees. “One of our employees was seriously injured in this attack. He is currently in the hospital and in stable condition. NFL staff are at the hospital and we are supporting his family.

“We believe that all of our employees are otherwise safe and accounted for, and the building has nearly been cleared. We are deeply grateful to the law enforcement officers who responded to this threat quickly and decisively and to Officer Islam, who gave his life to protect others. Please continue to pay close attention to GSOC notices for all available emergency information.

“These communications allow us to ensure that you are safe. As you are aware, a range of resources is available to all employees, including grief counselors. Shortly, HR will send you more information on the available resources and how to take advantage of them. Those based in New York should work remotely tomorrow.”

Per Ari Meirov of the 33rd Team, New York Mayor Eric Adams confirmed Tamura was “targeting” the league’s offices but took the wrong elevator.

“New York Mayor Eric Adams says the gunman who killed 4 people at a Manhattan office building was targeting the NFL headquarters but took the wrong elevator,” Merioc posted on X. “The shooter, Shane Tamura, left behind a note referencing a grievance against the NFL over an unproven claim he had CTE.”
