Hall of Fame QB offers positive assessment of Jordan Love

All eyes will be on Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love this season.

The position of quarterback is arguably the most important individual position in all of sports, and Love is taking over from future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers (who took over for Hall of Famer Brett Favre). Ever since Love was drafted, there has been questions surrounding how good he can be. When Green Bay traded up to draft him, there was some confusion considering the team still had Rodgers and that Love needed a lot of work.

Now, Love is set to take over after three years of intense study behind a four-time NFL MVP quarterback. We have not seen many glimpses of Love in game action, and the ones we have showed a mix of good and bad. However, NFL Hall of Fame quarterback Kurt Warner recently broke down some tape of Love’s play in 2022, and he came away very impressed.

Warner is doing a series of videos on YouTube called “Study Ball.” He posted a two-part analysis of Love’s film from his preseason play against the Kansas City Chiefs and his regular season play against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Warner points out some things that Love did well and also identified some areas of needed improvement.

“You see with him there is a lot of good stuff with recognition, understanding a lot of the safety movement, etc. Obviously there are some times where he tried to force the ball instead of letting the game come to him. Technique-wise, it can get away from him on the deeper balls thrown where they came out flat.

Those are some of the things I want to see improved from him but overall, when you look at the growth he has made, there is a lot to like in the drop back game, him being able to see different indicators to get the ball out of his hands accurately.”

The deep ball is one area where improvement is needed, but could become a massive weapon with Christian Watson running routes if Love can get it right. But hearing praise of Love's recognition is encouraging. Combined with the timing and footwork improvements mentioned by Warner, Love should be able give the offense a boost following mediocre quarterback play in 2022.
