Hall of Fame RB Terrell Davis builds his perfect NFL rusher

Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Terrell Davis knows a thing or two about pounding the rock.

The two-time Super Bowl champion with the Denver Broncos led the league twice in rushing touchdowns and earned league MVP in 1998, the season he rushed for 2,008 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Davis, as part of a media tour with Wells Fargo, took time out recently for Yardbarker to discuss the league's best rushers and even built a "perfect" RB using today's best backs.

When asked about the top five running backs in today's NFL, Davis quickly noted a few.

"In no particular order, Christian McCaffrey (San Francisco), Derrick Henry (Baltimore), Alvin Kamara (New Orleans), Saquon Barkley (Philadelphia)," he said. Davis also mentioned Indianapolis' Jonathan Taylor.

"But he's hurt right now, that's why I don't want to do it based off, like, whether they're healthy or not," he said. "But Taylor's one that I enjoy watching."

As Davis correctly noted, Taylor missed Indianapolis' 37-34 Week 5 loss to Jacksonville. But the 25-year-old had 349 rushing yards and four touchdowns in his previous four starts.

"I wouldn't pick [Isiah] Pacheco, just because he's on the Chiefs," Davis joked about his former division rival.

Yardbarker also asked Davis to build his perfect running back using today's best rushers. The juggernaut he created might be close to unstoppable.

"Well, you take Saquon [and] you might have the whole thing, right?" he said, jokingly. "I'll take Derrick Henry's size (6-foot-2 and 247 pounds). I'll take Saquon's kind of his, like the way he moves, right? He's got really good agility."

Henry and Barkley are Nos. 1 and 3 respectively on the league's rushing leaderboard this season. The former clocked in at 21.46 mph on his run in overtime that set up the winning field goal Sunday against the Bengals.

"I'll take Kamara's smoothness because he's really smooth and runs like a gazelle," Davis said. "I'll take Christian McCaffrey's versatility — he can do it all. And, damn, Taylor's got all that, too. I'll say Taylor's flat-out speed. I like his football speed."

McCaffrey has not played this season because of tendinitis in both his calves, but previous seasons prove Davis' assessment right.

Kamara, who is eighth in league rushing this season, will have the opportunity to display his speed against the back-to-back defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs on "Monday Night Football."
