Hall of Famer claps back at Jerry Jones for 49ers dig

The 49ers' surprise losses to the Cleveland Browns and Minnesota Vikings in back-to-back weeks reaffirmed the notion that any team can beat the NFC juggernaut on any given Sunday. That is, anybody but the Dallas Cowboys in recent years.

When the Cowboys and 49ers faced off in Week 5, many expected a contested shootout between two teams vying for a trip to the Super Bowl. The highly-anticipated bout turned into a blowout, with San Francisco dismantling Dallas, 42-10.

Following the 49ers' 22-17 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Monday night, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed resentment towards his team's embarrassing defeat several weeks prior.

"I would've liked to have played better against the 49ers," Jones said on 105.3 The Fan, per The Athletic. "You see a team step up and play like Minnesota did and their quarterback did, they can be had, the 49ers."

Jones' comments got the attention of Hall of Famer and ESPN personality Shannon Sharpe.

"You know, Jerry Jones, yeah, you're right. The 49ers ... can be had. You just can't do it," Sharpe said on Tuesday's episode of ESPN's "First Take." "Remember over the last three years, you've gotten three cracks at them. How'd that turn out for you?"

Though San Francisco certainly can "be had," the Cowboys have not had their number in recent years. Over their last three matchups, Dallas is 0-3 against the 49ers. Two of those losses have come in the playoffs, with Jones' team losing 23-17 and 19-12 in the 2021 wild-card round and 2022 divisional round, respectively.

With such an unappealing track record as of late, Sharpe questioned why Jones would bother taking a shot at his NFC rival.

"He's always focusing on somebody else's plate," Sharpe said of Jones. "Eat what's on your plate. Don't worry about [the] 49ers. Worry about the Dallas Cowboys. You've got enough to worry about."

Regardless, a possible rematch between these two teams in the playoffs just got a lot more interesting.
