Here we are, right on the verge of training camp beginning, with the Kansas City Chiefs' biggest issue still unresolved.
The offensive line has been a hot topic of discussion since the Super Bowl loss, and the moves made this offseason haven't exactly answered the question marks at left tackle.
Patrick Mahomes was sacked 47 times (including playoffs), a career-high, and right now, free agent addition Jaylon Moore and first-round pick Josh Simmons are unknown commodities.
For Bleacher Report, training camp - which opens on Monday - will hopefully shed light on the pecking order for the regular season.
“The Chiefs know that protecting Patrick Mahomes has to be their highest priority. As long as he has time in the pocket, they are going to have an effective offense,” Bleacher Report writes.
“Now, Thuney is gone and the Chiefs have placed bets on Jaylon Moore and Josh Simmons to fill the role. Ideally, one of their newest additions will prove they are ready to start in Week 1. The Chiefs also have to figure out if Suamataia can cut it at left guard, so the entire left side of the line is worth following in the coming weeks.”
If we are being serious, Simmons should eventually usurp Moore for the starting role. Whether that comes during training camp or is a slow process during the season, given his first-round pedigree, this job "should" be Josh's at some point during the season.
The Chiefs will want to bounce back from their poor Super Bowl loss, but that can't happen if Mahomes is again running for his life, so Andy Reid needs this left tackle situation to be solved as quickly as possible.
And in truth, it needs to be Simmons who wins the job.
