Has Jonathan Gannon lost support of Cardinals players, ownership?

Arizona Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon has become the subject of hot-seat rumors as the 3-11 club prepares to limp through the final three weeks of what's been a disappointing season for everybody involved.

For a piece published on Wednesday, ESPN's Josh Weinfuss suggested that Gannon hasn't lost the support of those within the Cardinals despite the club's woeful record.

Jonathan Gannon has improved the Cardinals' culture

"While Gannon is averaging five wins a season through Week 15 of his third campaign, what he has been successful at is building a culture inside the building," Weinfuss wrote. "Players like and listen to him, and they've bought into what he's said. He hasn't lost the locker room in what's become a lost season. And that counts for something for an organization that's been to the playoffs three times in the last 16 years."

It's worth mentioning that the Cardinals have been decimated by injuries since Week 1. Starting quarterback Kyler Murray made just five starts before he was shut down due to a lingering foot issue. No. 1 wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. played in 10 games across the campaign's first 15 weeks. As Will Lockwood noted for the Raising Zona website, three Cardinals running backs have gone down with season-ending setbacks.

That said, Gannon holds a 15-33 overall record as Arizona's head coach. Most recently, Arizona lost 11 of 12 games after it started the season at 2-0.

That said, it appears Cardinals ownership may not be in a hurry to make a big change come January.

What Michael Bidwill reportedly thinks of Jonathan Gannon

"In addition to being liked by his players, Gannon is liked by his boss," Weinfuss added. "A source told ESPN that Cardinals owner Michael Bidwill likes Gannon, a situation, the source added, that hasn't always been the case with Arizona's head coaches, especially a few years -- and a few losing years -- into their tenure. That, alone, could buy Gannon another year."

Reports from earlier in the fall said that Gannon and Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort could be given an opportunity to remain in their jobs and pick a new QB1 during the offseason. However, it's unclear how Bidwill would react if Arizona suffers three blowout losses to close the season out.

The Cardinals next host the Atlanta Falcons (5-9) in Week 16. As of Wednesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had Arizona as a 2.5-point home underdog for that game.
