Has Pete Carroll lost Raiders locker room amid awful season?

Head coach Pete Carroll was the subject of hot-seat chatter even before his Las Vegas Raiders fell to 2-12 on the season via a 31-0 loss at the Philadelphia Eagles (9-5) on Sunday.

Following the defeat, Carroll offered a passionate defense of his players. Later, Raiders rookie running back Ashton Jeanty spoke with Chris Franklin of NJ Advance Media for NJ.com about whether or not those inside the Las Vegas locker room are still embracing Carroll's messages ahead of Christmas.

Raiders players know Pete Carroll needs better from them

"Yeah, for sure," Jeanty explained. "We’re going to keep playing, and we’re going to keep fighting. It’s on us to come and play a better game than we did today."

Carroll's first season with Las Vegas has been nothing short of a disaster. The Raiders' decision to acquire quarterback Geno Smith from the Seattle Seahawks and sign him to a two-year contract extension during the offseason blew up in Vegas' face before Smith missed the Eagles debacle because of injuries to his right shoulder and hand. It's believed the Raiders could part ways with Smith during the upcoming offseason.

Shortly after Carroll relieved offensive coordinator Chip Kelly of his duties in November, a report revealed that Raiders minority owner Tom Brady had "shared with some people close to him his disappointment in the team’s overall performance." One would think that what occurred at Philadelphia's Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday won't make Brady feel any better about the state of the Raiders under Carroll's leadership.

What Pete Carroll told Raiders after blowout loss

Carroll is a 74-year-old head coach of a team that probably needs more than one good offseason to build a roster that could compete for a playoff berth. If Carroll is discouraged, it seems that he's doing a good job of hiding it from his players.

"He’s told us to just keep going, and no matter what has happened this season, we are still playing for something," Jeanty said about Carroll's message to the team. "Whatever it may be for us personally, find that and keep going and keep playing. But I definitely do not feel like we responded to that today. It was an embarrassing performance."

The Raiders next play at the Houston Texans (9-5) on Dec. 21. As of Monday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had Las Vegas as a massive 14.5-point underdog for that game.
