Whispers surfaced ahead of Christmas hinting that Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam could part ways with both head coach Kevin Stefanski and general manager Andrew Berry after the club completes its fourth losing season in five years under its current regime this coming weekend.
More recently, reports have suggested that Stefanski's exit from the Browns "feels imminent." It seems that the same can't be said for Berry ahead of Week 18.
"Browns general manager Andrew Berry has been operating like someone who will be back, and that's my sense of what will happen," ESPN's Jeremy Fowler shared for an article published on Wednesday. "His successful 2025 draft was carefully crafted with 2026 in mind, and he has had the freedom to negotiate extensions with veterans."
As The Athletic's Zac Jackson and others have detailed, defensive tackle Mason Graham, linebacker Carson Schwesinger, running back Quinshon Judkins and tight end Harold Fannin Jr. are among the rookies drafted by Berry earlier this year who impressed throughout the fall. As of Wednesday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook had Schwesinger as a huge -600 betting favorite to win the Defensive Rookie of the Year Award.
Additionally, it's possible that 2025 fifth-round draft pick Shedeur Sanders could at least begin next September as Cleveland's starting quarterback. Meanwhile, Haslam previously accepted blame for the Browns acquiring Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans and for Cleveland signing Watson to a fully guaranteed five-year, $230M contract in March 2022.
Since the start of the final week of 2025, stories have mentioned that Browns offensive coordinator Tommy Rees, Cleveland defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz and current Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel could ultimately replace Stefanski as head coach of the AFC North club. As Julia Stumbaugh of Bleacher Report noted, ESPN NFL insider Jeremy Fowler said on a recent edition of the "This is Football" podcast that the Browns had "done their preliminary research for a potential move" at head coach.
It sounds as if Berry is leading that research and, thus, has been told that he'll still be in his role when the upcoming scouting combine gets underway.
