Have Colts make a decision about Daniel Jones?

The Indianapolis Colts struck gold with their gamble on Daniel Jones.

For most of the season, he looked like the quarterback they've been looking for since Andrew Luck's sudden retirement. That's why his season-ending Achilles injury was such a big blow not only to their playoff aspirations but also to the offseason outlook.

Nevertheless, as risky as it might be, the Colts aren't wavering in their desire to keep the former Duke star in town. According to NFL insider Jason La Canfora, multiple GMs believe there's no way Jones won't return to Indianapolis next season.

Indianapolis Colts aren't expected to let Daniel Jones leave

"'(Colts GM Chris) Ballard was going to put the (franchise) tag on him if he didn’t get hurt,' said one NFL general manager on the prowl for a new quarterback who would have interest in Jones if he was healthy," La Canfora wrote. 'Everybody knew that. Now he can keep him without tagging him.' A second GM said: 'Jones is going back to the Colts. It makes too much sense not to happen.'"

Jones thrived in Shane Steichen's offense. Per Pro Football Reference, he completed 68 percent of his passes for 3,101 yards, 19 touchdowns, eight interceptions and a passer rating of 100.2. He also had 45 carries for 164 yards and five touchdowns in 13 games.

The former New York Giants first-round pick is expected to be back to full strength for training camp. He should gauge interest from several quarterback-needy teams in free agency, but given how he fared in Indianapolis last season, it's hard to imagine he'll end up elsehwere.
