Have Giants made WR Kadarius Toney available before trade deadline?

The 6-1 New York Giants likely need to add multiple pieces to compete with the NFL's best teams over the second half of the 2022 season, but some continue to think the club could offload "dead wood" before the league's trade deadline arrives on Nov. 1.

ESPN's Jordan Raanan hinted that the Giants potentially could shop wide receiver and 2021 first-round draft pick Kadarius Toney.

"They need Toney and his playmaking ability, but he's also hurt," Raanan explained about the situation. "Who wants to trade for a player who is currently dealing with hamstring injuries and has missed 12 of 24 career games, even if he was a first-round pick last year? While on the trade topic, running back Saquon Barkley is not going anywhere right now when leading the NFL in yards from scrimmage and with the Giants 6-1."

Neither first-year Giants general manager Joe Schoen nor first-year head coach Brian Daboll had anything to do with the organization drafting Toney. They'd nevertheless likely receive little for the 23-year-old's services before 4 p.m. ET on the opening day of November.

Toney appeared in just 10 games as a rookie and tallied 39 catches for 420 yards and zero touchdowns, and he has since recorded two catches for no yards across only two contests during the current campaign.

Raanan reported last week that it "seems most realistic" Toney will remain sidelined due to his lingering hamstring issues past the trade deadline and New York's bye that precedes the Week 10 game against the Houston Texans on Nov. 13. Even if some team wanted to gift the Giants with a single draft asset for damaged goods, ESPN stats show Big Blue is responsible for the league's third-worst passing attack that is averaging just 160.9 yards through the air per game this season.

In short, the Giants and Toney probably need each other at least until the new NFL year begins in March 2023.
