HC John Harbaugh excited for 'ferocious' addition to Ravens

With injuries continuing to pile up, the Ravens decided to add another veteran to their squad Wednesday and head coach John Harbaugh is excited about what he's bringing to the team.

"I've always liked Kyle Van Noy as a player," Harbaugh told reporters. "He's just a ferocious player, smart player, tough player. I know he's in shape and he's ready to go, and if needed, he'll be out there helping us."

Van Noy, who visited Baltimore in July but did not sign, is starting on the practice squad. He can be activated for up to three games before he would have to be moved to the 53-man roster.

It's great timing after LB Odafe Oweh (ankle) did not play in Sunday's loss to the Colts and LB David Ojabo left the game after just four snaps with an ankle injury. Tyus Bowser (knee) has also been on the non-football injury list since the start of training camp and cannot return until Week 5 at the earliest.

The Ravens have Super Bowl aspirations this season and veteran LB Roquan Smith knows how important every game is as the team faces more adversity with injuries and Van Noy will play an important role.

"I've got a lot of respect for [Kyle] and the way he even came in today," Smith said. "Just his leadership as well as how smart the guy is ...  he knows exactly what we expect of him and I'm just excited to welcome him to the team and I think he's going to be a great addition for us."

Only time will tell how fast the 32-year-old can get up to speed, but the banged-up Baltimore defense could use a player of his consistency.

Van Noy has had at least five sacks in each of the past four seasons and won two Super Bowls (LI and LIII) with the Patriots. Now he'll do his best to help the Ravens win their third championship in 2023.
