The Washington Commanders upgraded a lot of premium positions this offseason, but the upgrades to the cornerback room can't be overstated.
The league somehow let the Commanders get Trey Amos at pick 61 in the draft after being a projected late first-rounder, and he's already looking the part of a franchise corner for the Commanders in training camp.
Amos joining a high-caliber corner in Marshon Lattimore and budding superstar in Mike Sainristil can elevate the Commanders' run to the Super Bowl this season, and his teammates already see his potential.
His teammates have already had high praise for Amos as well, especially Sainristil, who had a lot of his own success as an outside corner in Year 1.
"I think he's very mature," Sainristil told the media about Amos. "He has the right mindset. . .He understands it very well and he brings something to his defense that we need and he knows that, the DB room knows that. We all know what his capabilities are."
That's encouraging to hear from a young leader on the team who held down the spot that Amos is taking over this season. Having two young starters at corner that are in their first and second seasons would be a massive advantage for the Commanders when it comes to contracts and building the future of the team.

Lattimore looks healthy again as well, which as the veteran of the group, can certainly help him lead by example. Amos learning techniques and how to attack wide receivers' routes from Lattimore can help jumpstart his impact to start the season.
Amos signed his contract just in time to report to training camp and soak up all the coaching and time on the field with his teammates, and it's paying off. The first thing I noticed about Amos when I saw him at practice was his size and the fluidity of his movement.
I like what I see from Commanders rookie CB Trey Amos.

He shows a lot of patience in letting the play develop, then reacting as he knows he should instead of getting antsy like a lot of young corners do, which often leads to getting burned. That comes from having confidence in your abilities, but also believing in the coaching staff and your teammates.
"That's what I've been doing and trying to maximize my skillset each and every day," Amos told the media. "Pretty much you just got to go over there with a great mindset and try to learn that technique that the coaches want you to do. I feel like they wouldn't put you in the worst position if you just listen."

The potential of this group is higher than any cornerback room Washinton has had in a long time, and their impact this season can be maximized by their individual skill sets and belief in each other. We will get to see how the trio looks against other teams with the joint practices and preseason games approaching in August.
