Former Chargers Quarterback Philip Rivers has nothing but positive words for Justin Herbert. He recently spoke about Herbert on July 1st on the Crain & Company Podcast . “They got that one right,” Rivers said. “I pull like crazy for the Chargers and I pull for Justin Herbert in particular, just because I think it’s awesome that I was able to be there for 16 years. Hopefully he can be there for another 16”. It’s not easy to find a franchise QB in the NFL. The Miami Dolphins have been searching for a QB to be the face of the team since Dan Marino retired in 2000. The Chicago Bears have not had a franchise QB since Jim McMahon in the 80s. It is rare for teams to make such a seamless transition at the Quarterback position and Philip Rivers is aware of that.

As Herbert grew up a Chargers fan, this praise from a Chargers legend meant the world to him. To receive praise from someone you grew up watching is a moment that anyone would dream of. On the second episode of Campin’ Out hosted by Sebastian Joseph-Day,  Justin Herbert was able to respond to the praise from former Chargers QB. Herbert said, ” I was such a big fan of Phil, I wish I got the chance to study and learn from him for a couple of years”. “For him to be able to do it as long as he did without missing any games, I’ve got so much respect for that man as a competitor, football player, father, and teammate”. Rivers has set the standard that Justin Herbert wants to follow as Herbert has high expectations going into his third season.
