Here’s the Schedule for This Week’s NFL Combine

With Super Bowl LIX in the rearview mirror and the official start of the 2025 NFL year still two weeks away, the unofficial start of the year takes place this week in Indianapolis as league coaches, scouts and executives meet up with some of the nation’s top draft prospects at the NFL Combine.

As scouting departments around the league grew and became more focused in the 1970s, the combine concept began with multiple locations for teams to perform medical testing and compile measurements on the top prospects. The multiple locations merged and landed in Indianapolis in 1987, where the combine has been held annually ever since.

NFL Network has televised portions of the combine since it first hit the airwaves in 2004, to the point where it will have more than 50 hours of live coverage beginning Tuesday.

The highlight from a TV perspective is always the 40-yard dash, but the media that descends on Indianapolis is more interested in talking to the coaches and general managers in attendance. Those press conferences begin in earnest on Tuesday, as the college players slowly trickle into town, get measured and put through medical testing before they take part in organized workouts for the scouts.

In addition to specific position drills and the 40-yard dash, on-field workouts also include the vertical jump, broad jump, bench press and three-cone drill.

Of course, not all the top prospects will be there and many who are there will not take place in the workouts — preferring to wait for their school’s Pro Day to put their best foot forward. Still, it’s an opportunity for all of the prospects to meet privately with select NFL coaches and GMs. It’s also a good chance for prospects who might not have been household names during their college careers to make a good first impression on the NFL powers that be.
