Los Angeles Rams pass rusher Jared Verse put the league on notice with his play in 2024. The league's Defensive Rookie of the Year is just getting started — with one recently retired All-Pro offensive lineman happily riding off into the sunset without any more matchups against Verse looming.
Terron Armstead hung up the cleats in April after 12 seasons of NFL play. Across 135 games, Armstead was named to five Pro Bowls and was named Second-Team All-Pro in 2018 with the New Orleans Saints. Having spent nine years in New Orleans and the last three in Miami with the Dolphins, Armstead has had plenty of clashes with the Los Angeles Rams.
But his most recent and final encounter, a primetime matchup last season, left a lasting mark that Armstead carries with him into retirement. When asked about some of the names he's glad to not have to block any longer, the first name Armstead mentioned was Verse.

"Number one. He was a rookie from the Rams. That young boy, Jared Verse? I'm cool. I'm good. I never gotta see that man again. I'm okay with that, never seeing that young man again in my life. (His) Bull rush is different. It's different — you know that it's coming, you brace yourself, he's different. Jared Verse is different, he will be a Defensive Player of the Year one of these days, mark my words." - Terron Armstead
Verse jolted Armstead with a powerful punch while running a stunt against the Dolphins when these two teams matched up last season. The contact notably knocked Armstead back into the pocket. Verse, after twisting inside to the left guard, would then go on to strip-sack Tagovailoa and wreck the play.
It's just the beginning of one career and the end of another. While Armstead has ample believe in what Verse is set to become, he's happy to be riding off into the sunset without having to prep to face the power ever again.
