The 2025 season hasn't been kind to Carolina Panthers second-year wide receiver Xavier Legette. In fact, it's hard to see anyway it could have gone worse for the young play-maker.
During the first two games of the season, Legette was making history for all the wrong reasons and then suffered a hamstring injury that forced him to sit out of the last two games. But, the time off might have given him a much-needed chance to refocus.
On Wednesday, Legette was a full participant on the field at practice and told reporters after the game that he not only expects to play, but prove doubters wrong in Week 5.
"I want to prove (it) to the fans and whoever the doubters (are), whoever think I ain't that," Legette told reporters in the locker room. "...They just wait for me to show them. That's what I think it is. For folks who say I ain't a good player, I feel like that's wild to say."
"(Xavier) doesn't need a message," quarterback Bryce Young said when asked what message he has for Legette. "He's a great player. I'm super excited for him to be back. People want to say things and everyone can see the work he was putting in the last couple weeks, him dying to be on the field.
"He doesn't need a message, he doesn't need a pep talk. He's ready to go. Being able to have him back is huge for us as a team, as an offense, for me. I'm just excited."
Scorched earth Xavier Legette is exactly what this offense needs to get back on track in the passing game. Amid his struggles and missed time due to injury, first-round wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan has led the Panthers in receiving yards in each of the first four games, leading to even more attention coming his way from the defense.
Tetairoa McMillan will be an All-Pro WR in the NFL.

Over the first two games, Legette had 15 total targets but only managed to record four receptions and eight total yards on those targets due to a multitude of reasons. That's certainly not up to any kind of professional standard and something Legette wants to put behind him when he returns.
Head coach Dave Canales also shared on Wednesday that he intends to create more downfield opportunities for the offense this week and also plans to start getting rookie wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr. on the field as well.
As it relates to the passing game in Carolina, things are starting to look up in a major way. Now it's just on players like Legette to prove it on the field this Sunday.
