Through their eight-game winning streak, the Philadelphia Eagles have looked the part of a dominant team and one of the best organizations in football.
If history tells us anything, though, something disastrous is about to happen to the team.
In seasons the Eagles have gone on a seven or higher game-winning streak, the team has suffered a gruesome injury to one of their biggest stars late in the year. It's one of the most uncanny and unlucky things that have happened to any team out there.
And the history lesson should have the fan base worried as we go moving through the month of December.
Here are some of the latest examples and why the Eagles should be on guard this month.
2003 - Brian Westbrook, Torn Triceps Muscle Philadelphia won nine straight games in 2003 thanks in large part to the emergence of Brian Westbrook who had 11 touchdowns on the year. Westbrook tore his triceps muscle in the final game of the season against the Redskins, though, and the offense was never able to recover losing in the NFC title game.
2004 - Terrell Owens - Broken Leg Owens' performance in Super Bowl XXXIX is legendary but the broken leg suffered late in the season changed the course of the franchise for years. If he was healthy, does Donovan McNabb disrespect Owens by saying the team can win without him? Does Owens at 100% change the Super Bowl outcome? It's certainly a major what-if.
2017 - Carson Wentz - Torn ACL Wentz was the front-runner for the MVP award and appeared to be on the Patrick Mahomes trajectory before Mahomes took over. Instead, he tore his ACL in the middle of December. While the Eagles still won the Super Bowl, this was an injury that altered the course of the franchise forever.
2022 - Jalen Hurts - Sprained Shoulder While Hurts' injury was the least serious of any on this list, the injury kept him from winning the MVP award that year, and made things dicey for the team later in the year.
