Houston Texans Fans Won’t Like This Opinion On WR Stefon Diggs
Nathan Ray Seebeck-USA TODAY Sports

The Houston Texans acquired wide receiver Stefon Diggs in a blockbuster trade with the Buffalo Bills last month, which has many pegging the Texans as the biggest threats to the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC.

However, Bleacher Report’s Alex Kay does not seem entirely sold on Diggs.

In a piece where Kay listed the most overrated players at every position in the NFL, he named Diggs as the most overrated receiver.

Kay supplements his argument by saying that Diggs badly faded after the first five games of the 2023 campaign, failing to register a 100-yard outing after Week 5. He also mentions Diggs’ rather shaky playoff track record.

Kay adds that he isn’t sure how Diggs’ numbers will translate in Houston, as the Texans already have a pair of dynamic wide outs in Nico Collins and Tank Dell.

From a production standpoint, Kay’s assessment certainly makes sense.

Diggs was the No. 1 receiver in Buffalo for all four years there, and each season, he registered over 100 catches. That almost certainly won’t be the case in Houston.

Collins became C.J. Stroud’s favorite target last season, and he loved going to Dell before Dell was lost for the year due to a leg injury, as well. Plus, there is tight end Dalton Schultz, and the Texans also signed running back Joe Mixon—who catches a lot of passes out of the backfield—in free agency.

Stroud will have no shortage of weapons to utilize in 2024, meaning that targets will be spread out. That means Diggs will not be getting the ball nearly as often, and it is even entirely possible that he won’t even register 1,000 yards receiving next season.

On top of that, Diggs is 30 years old, so he is no longer an ascending player. If anything, we may have begun seeing his decline this past season.

Finally, Diggs is not exactly a great locker room guy. He caused issues with the Minnesota Vikings and was clearly a problem toward the end of his tenure with the Bills.

Who is to say he won’t act out again in Houston?

There is no doubt that Diggs is a very good player, but we should probably pump the brakes on all of the Texans hype until we actually see Diggs go out on the field and perform next season.

It’s understandable why some may consider Stefon Diggs overrated at this point.
