How Does De’Von Achane‘s 2025 Season Stack Up with the Greatest Rushing Campaigns in Franchise History?
If there’s been one positive takeaway to glean from what has been a nightmarish 2025 season for the Miami Dolphins, it’s that De’Von Achane has staked his claim as one of the NFL’s premier running backs in his third year. He’s torn up run defenses all season long, but how exactly do his rushing numbers stack up against some of the greatest individual rushing seasons in franchise history?
Starting with total yardage, Achane has 1,350 to his name, and that puts him in great company. The only running back to rack up more yards in a single campaign in team history was none other than Ricky Williams. He actually topped that number twice in 2003 and 2002, but Achane needs just 23 yards in Miami’s season finale to top Williams’ total from the 2003 campaign.
Where Achane ranks in franchise history in rushing yards per game this season also suggests he’s enjoying a historically successful campaign. He’s posted 84.4 rushing yards per contest up to this point, and that’s the fifth-highest mark any Dolphin has mustered in a season. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Williams has the franchise record in that statistic as well, and he averaged 115.8 rushing yards per game in his incredible 2002 season.
But one rushing stat where Achane doesn’t stack up among the best in team history in a single season is rushing touchdowns. He’s totaled just eight despite how productive he’s been, and that barely ranks in the top 20 in team history. Believe it or not, running back Raheem Mostert ran for a franchise record 18 touchdowns back in the 2023 season, and Achane hasn’t run for even half that number of touchdowns.
While Achane may not have put together the best rushing season of any Dolphin ever, if nothing else, he stands out as one of the most talented players at the position who’s ever worn the uniform.
