Shortly after the Baltimore Ravens fell to 8-5 on the season via a Week 13 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Dec. 1, Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson revealed that his mom "cussed" him out following the game. She said, "There were lanes [he] should’ve took and ran" versus the Eagles.
The 2-11 Giants will host the Ravens this Sunday, and multiple Big Blue players suggested on Thursday they wished Jackson's mom wouldn't have offered her take on the 27-year-old's performance against the Eagles ahead of Baltimore's Week 14 bye.
"Everyone always jokes: When your mom tells you to do something, you have to do it," Giants safety Dane Belton said, New York Post's Ryan Dunleavy shared. "He’s probably going to run the ball."
As the StatMuse website notes, Jackson enters this weekend leading the NFL with 3,968 combined passing and rushing yards for the season. Per ESPN stats, he's first among qualified players with a 116.3 passer rating, third with a 73.8 adjusted QBR and second with 29 touchdowns through the air. He's also first among quarterbacks with 678 rushing yards.
"Mama’s word means something, so he’s definitely going to try to run the ball a little more than he did," Giants pass-rusher Tomon Fox said about Jackson. "If my mama told me to do something, I’m going to do it."
Jackson likely won't need much motivation from his mom or any other family members to torch a Giants defense that's simply trying to get through the final four weeks of what's become a lost season for the organization. As of Friday morning, DraftKings Sportsbook listed New York as a massive 16.5-point underdog against Baltimore.
Rookie linebacker Darius Muasau is among Giants players who expect Jackson will try to make plays with his legs early and often at MetLife Stadium this weekend.
"I’m pretty sure everyone saw what he said," Muasau said about Jackson. "When mom speaks, everybody listens. I’m pretty sure that’s a universal thing."
Unfortunately for the Giants, there's little sign that Jackson's mom will give the NFC East side a break and have the two-time regular-season Most Valuable Player Award winner looking ahead to Baltimore's Week 16 showdown versus the rival Pittsburgh Steelers.
