One of the main topic in the 2020 NFL draft was who should get drafted first: Justin Herbert or Tua Tagovailoa? Both quarterbacks had electric numbers in their college careers, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they will produce the same in the NFL. The Miami Dolphins had the fifth pick while the Chargers had the sixth, meaning the Chargers had to wait and see who the Dolphins chose. They decided to choose Tua, which fired Herbert up and wanted to prove they had made a mistake by passing up on him.

Tua vs. Herbert : Who Has Produced More?

Tua came into the NFL with a history of injuries, while Herbert had been healthy throughout his college career. In the first 2 seasons, Tua had 4,467 passing yards with 27 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. Meanwhile, Justin Herbert had 9,350 passing yards with 69 touchdowns and 25 interceptions. Although Tua has played 11 less games than Herbert, it seems that his stats have plateaued while Herbert is only getting better.

Justin Herbert came off his rookie season winning Offensive Rookie of the Year. In his rookie year, he put up 4,336 passing yards, 31 touchdowns, and only 10 interceptions. Many people thought this was “beginners luck” but he proved to get even better in his second year. He avoided the sophomore slump with 5,014 passing yards, 38 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions. Herbert holds the most touchdown passes (69) and passing yards (9,350) through a players first two seasons in NFL history.

Is Justin Herbert a Future NFL MVP?

Justin Herbert is a truly gifted athlete, standing at 6ft 6in and being able to throw a football 68 yards with no run up. Although, that doesn’t necessarily mean he will be an NFL MVP contender in his career. Herbert continues to put in the hard work and is getting noticed by many other quarterbacks, coaches, and NFL analysts. Jeremy Fowler, an ESPN NFL analyst, posted an article where players, coaches, and executives listed their Top 10 quarterbacks in the league. They have Justin Herbert listed seventh overall, despite only having two seasons under his belt. Justin Herbert has as much talent as anyone else in the league, but can he continue to grow into a leader and separate himself from the other great quarterbacks in this league?
