It's no secret that Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman was working the phones during draft day, and a new behind-the-scenes video released by the team showed that.
At one point, Roseman attempted to trade up from No. 32 overall with the Washington Commanders to grab Alabama's Jihaad Campbell at No. 29 overall.
However, Washington general manager Adam Peters had no interest due to the “in-division tax."
"He really didn't want to do a trade with me," Roseman said before looking to the television to see who the Commanders would get.
With the 29th pick, Washington selected Oregon tackle Josh Conerly Jr.
Despite now getting his way, Roseman gave kudos to the rival team.
"That's a great pick," he said.
"Yup," Eagles owner Jeffrey Lurie agreed.
Conerly was one of the prospects that the Eagles invited to the NovaCare Complex for a pre-draft visit.
The Ducks' product played a key role in Oregon's offensive line, which was a 2024 finalist for the Joe Moore Award, given to the nation's most outstanding offensive line unit. He logged 965 total offensive snaps, including 929 at left tackle.
However, perhaps his most impressive feat was that he allowed just one sack and nine total pressures in nearly 500 opportunities, according to Pro Football Focus. It's also worth noting that in 11 of the Ducks' 14 regular-season games, Conerly received a pass-blocking grade of 70 or higher. That kind of grade screams reliable.
Regardless of Conerly's talents, the Eagles were hell-bent on selecting Jihaad Campbell and traded one spot up with the Kansas City Chiefs at No. 31 overall.
Campbell is someone who will come in handy, knowing the Eagles have to face Conerly and the Commanders twice a year.
