Repeating as Super Bowl champions is always the toughest challenge for any team when it happens. The Philadelphia Eagles are in that same boat, but have plenty of reason to believe they can do it all agian in 2025.
CBS Sports writer Tyler Sullivan shared his list of one reason each NFL team should be optimistic entering training camp. Sullivan likes how the Eagles' roster is structured with a lot of the key pieces from the Super Bowl champion team back in 2025.
"Philadelphia did lose some pieces this offseason like Milton Williams, Josh Sweat and Mekhi Becton, but the core that hoisted the Lombardi Trophy is largely intact. Jalen Hurts remains entrenched as the franchise's quarterback, he has a star-studded group of weapons headlined by A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Saquon Barkley, and the defense has the talent to remain one of the better units in the league. Given all that, it's a bit surprising to see other teams -- like Baltimore and Buffalo -- listed above them as the favorites to win Super Bowl LX as we begin camp."
The work that Eagles general manager Howie Roseman has put into building this roster over the last five years is a work of art. 15 players that Roseman has selected since 2020 are either current starters or projected starters in 2025.
Philly has one of the youngest rosters in the NFL, with their defense contributing to that. Zack Baun and Reed Blankenship are the only projected starters on the Eagles going into 2025 who are older than 25. This is unheard of in the NFL.
It works for the Eagles, though, as they have young talent all around that is already making a significant contribution. Guys like Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Nakobe Dean, Quinyon Mitchell, and Cooper DeJean have stepped up over the last two years and have become borderline Pro Bowlers for their work.
Roseman has not been afraid to make the big splash signings as well. Looking at Saquon Barkley and A.J. Brown were instant game changers on an offense that needed home run hitters.
Even the signings that weren't the flashiest have proven to be great moves for the Eagles. Roseman's signing of Baun last offseason proved to be the most underrated move in 2024 as he became an All-Pro for the first time.
There aren't many general managers who can build the type of roster that Roseman has, but he needs all the credit for Eagles fans being optimistic going into the 2025 season.
