How's Cowboys Micah Parsons Reacting To Trade Rumor?
Bob Donnan-Imagn Images

FRISCO - The perfect way to avoid saying something silly? Don't say anything at all.

That mantra doesn't exactly dovetail in the PR-pushin' philosophy of your Dallas Cowboys, who stepped in it over the weekend when COO Stephen Jones issued a series of statements that suggested that the idea of trading Micah Parsons rather than signing him is a consideration.

The remarks have become a rumor. The spit has hit the fan. Stephen has crawfished. Owner Jerry Jones, Stephen's dad, has tried to douse the flames. But it's left to Micah himself - rather incredibly - to handle the controversy with maturity and aplomb.

Parsons wisely saw need to address this junk and did so on his Monday podcast, "The Edge,

"We're gonna figure out a way for me to be a Cowboy for life," he said.

Parsons in 2025 is presently slated to play under the fifth-year option of his contract, so he will be making $24 million. But his goal is to make $40 million per year and to become the highest-paid defensive player of all time.

Stephen's unfortunate remarks aside, that is Dallas' goal here, and there are ways to accomplish all of it for a special player who in 60 career games has totaled 245 tackles, 49 sacks, 59 tackles for loss and 108 quarterback hits.

Parsons is a three-time Pro Bowler and a two-time First Team All-Pro and a foundational piece of where the Cowboys hope to go as a franchise. And all they need to do to move toward making it happen is to negotiate more ... and to talk less.

We dissect the foolishness of Stephen's media approach here in the Fish Report. Tune in and join in, please!
